Haydn’s “Te Deum”, composed in 1799, written for Empress Marie
Therese to celebrate Lord
Nelson’s
arrival in Vienna, is a short
three movement classical work based on the Gregorian Te
Deum plainchant from the eight psalm-tone that exudes a
simple joy throughout.
Dvorak’s “Te
Deum”, composed in 1892 to celebrate the 400th
anniversary of
Columbus’ first
landing in the
New World,
is a wildly festive and celebratory setting of the Latin text
that the Czech composer
premiered in
New
York with a choir of
250.
Bruckner’s
“Te Deum”, composed in 1884, is a
crowning testament to his legacy, a great romantic work
of immense power and spiritual depth.
