' Mozart began this mass as a promise. Written without a commission from patrons, Mozart created this piece as a mass of thanksgiving for his marriage and the prospective arrival of his first child. Unlike Mozart’s other compositions, this Great Mass in C minor was to be performed on a large scale, including choruses with five and even eight voice parts.
